As I’ve mentioned, we all choose what we want for our birthday cakes in our family. Up until this year, we’ve really lucked out in that, {J, O & S} have always just agreed on the same kind of cake. So this year was a ‘first’. They had all spent their own bouts of time flipping through their big sister’s cook books, and it seems 2 of them had seen something they wanted, and they knew exactly on which page, in which book, it was.
So this post isn’t directional recipes, per say, but a few cute ideas you may like to use for your kids, or yourself, sometime! Good news: Birthdays are not a requirement! An ordinary Sunday, the kickoff of a school vacation, or… (READ MORE......) | 3 Comments

I won’t insult you with a recipe, or a ‘How to Make S’mores’ post.
I’ll just share s’more photos!

We threw together this wonderful summer treat on the afternoon of {A}’s birthday, and called it a Birthday Parfait.
It couldn’t be any simpler to make:
1) Rinse some strawberries and blueberries in the sink.
(Next year we’ll have enough strawberries of our own from our garden, to not have to use store-bought, but these were really good berries, anyway! Big, juicy, and sweet.)

2) De-stem and slice the strawberries.

The other day, {A} asked me if she could make some ice cream. “Ice cream?” I asked, puzzled. “Yeah, Mama. Ice cream. I’ve made it before and it’s really good!” “Uh huh” I answered. But I was thinking, ‘Don’t you really need an ice cream maker for that?’
So got out all of the stuff, and I started taking photos. You know, just in case this one turned out ok. Maybe I could use it for the blog. Even if it was less for Vittles (as in, edible), and more for a kid science experiment in the Home Schooling section! So, I found my purpose in sticking around for a bit, and kept shooting.
She got out all she said she… (READ MORE......) | 1 Comment

After our good-intentioned whining spells as of late, about wishing for more comments, we thought you all deserved some nice treat ideas. The hot cider was one, and just as soon as we get some “I”s, I’ll be posting the easy recipe to that. (Yes, we are relentless.) (OH….I double posted. So there is a new post, posted before this one, down below if you want to start there. ) In addition to the cider recipe, we’d like to share some steps to this easy, pretty, fun and festive treat!
Last year for our Christmas gathering with some family, we made these pretty pretzel rods drizzled with chocolate. Our visiting family even wanted to… (READ MORE......) | 8 Comments

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just want something really crunchy. I have always loved a good granola -as snacks, toppings or cereal with milk.
When we discovered one of our sons is severely allergic to peanuts, that ruled out almost any granola we checked out in stores. If the granola didn’t actually have peanuts as an ingredient, it was still listed as manufactured on machinery of products with peanuts, and therefor may contain traces of peanuts. (In other words, it may be contaminated with peanuts, and pose a life-threatening danger for our boy.)
So it was time to start making our own granola, to be sure it was peanut-free… (READ MORE......) | 5 Comments

Over the weekend we decided to look around in The Christmas Tree Shops. If you don’t have one of those near you, I feel bad for you. It’s such a great, affordable place, and I always come out with more than I planned on getting. So I try not to go in often. : ) But this time we all went in – and being the season to sell autumn decorations and goods, I had to control myself with every turn. However…..we did let the kids each choose a mini loaf ceramic pan, with the intention of letting them bake some mini loaves on Sunday.
Sunday got away in terms of baking. So then… (READ MORE......)

Still trying to catch up on work here, but had the chance to finish getting these family photos processed too, which are (some) from Memorial Day weekend, actually. So I thought I’d share them on the blog real quick.
‘Make Your Own Ice Cream Sundae’ is a pretty exciting happening around here. Actually…the kids like to ‘make their own’ anything!! But sundaes seem especially fun. It’s something we do more than not, because with Shane having an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts, we all feel better about just having this treat at home. It’s a lot safer, and we can lick in peace. Not to say we never get ice cream out, but if we… (READ MORE......) | 3 Comments

Heffalump Rumpledoodles. These things are quite possibly the tastiest little crumpets on the face of the earth!
We first heard of Rumpledoodles when the little one’s Auntie L gave them this charming Winnie the Pooh DVD movie titled Pooh’s Heffalump Movie, for their 3rd birthday. In the movie, the Hundred Acre Wood gang decide to go out and hunt the much feared, and never-seen Heffalumps they have been hearing out in the woods. Roo went off on his own hunt, and has a run-in with a baby Heffalump, when he is suddenly ‘tagged you’re it!’. The adorable little Heffalump, named “Lumpy”, and Little Roo (READ MORE......) | 1 Comment
